Full-time, permanent with 3 months probation period

We are looking for an individual to join our Finds Team working on the processing of finds recovered from archaeological excavations; including cleaning, marking, bagging, boxing of the finds; and creating, maintaining and updating finds documentation. You will have the ability to work effectively as part of a team with a flexible attitude and a willingness to undertake a variety of tasks .The role requires the ability to undertake manual handling.

Pre-Construct Archaeology Ltd. is offering a full-time post as Archive Assistant, based at the Company offices in Brockley, London SE4.

The work involves assisting in collating and preparing finds from archaeological sites for deposition in museums and other assigned repositories, and includes supervising volunteers. It offers the opportunity to handle a wide range of archaeological material from excavations, from animal bone to pottery and metal objects. Through extracting information on the finds from reports and specialist works, it also offers a good understanding of post-excavation work and the creation of knowledge and narratives from excavated artefacts and ecofacts.

A degree in Archaeology or other heritage related subjects, such as History or Museum Studies, would be desirable, as would familiarity with the LAARC (Museum of London Archaeological Archive and Resource Centre) archiving system. Experience of using databases would be a bonus. The job will require an ability to be accurate and consistent, and attention to detail.

This job would be suitable for any applicant who wishes to pursue a career in Archaeology or within the wider heritage industry.
