Regional Offices Post Excavation Manager – Salary in range of £28,000-£33,000 per annum

Pre-Construct Archaeology Ltd operates from 7 offices across England and to date Post-Excavation management has been based at the London office. We are now seeking to appoint a Post-Excavation Manager for the delivery and management of post-excavation works for four offices outside of London (Durham, Newark, Warwick & Winchester).

The Regional Post-Excavation Manager will be required to promote PCA through the outcome of high-quality and thorough reporting in liaison with regional office managers. The manager will be expected to coordinate the requirements of the regional offices with regard to the needs of authors, specialists and the graphics team to ensure that the timetabling and budgetary demands of individual projects are met. The creation of this post should also help to alleviate conflicting pressures on PCA’s internal specialists and ensure that the requirements of our clients are met in all offices.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate proven ability in the management and delivery of Post-Excavation programmes within the UK commercial archaeological sector, they will be flexible in approach and relish a challenge. Experience of managing projects in both rural and urban environments would be most welcome as would IT skills, including use of common software packages and GIS.

The post could be based at any one of the named PCA offices above. A full UK Driving Licence is preferred and visits to all offices will be necessary on a regular basis. Membership of the CIfA is desirable.

Project Manager – PCA London Salary in the range of £33,000-41,000 (subject to experience) + other benefits

Pre-Construct Archaeology Limited is a provider of archaeological and heritage services across the UK. It is one of the largest and fastest growing commercial heritage practices and operates from seven offices. It is also a partner within COPA, a vehicle for delivering infrastructure projects across the UK.

PCA London is involved in a range of large, medium and small-scale projects across London and the south east of England and due to our existing and forthcoming commitments the London office, PCA London, requires one or more experienced Project Managers to work within our busy office providing professional advice and services across London and the south-east of England. Pre-Construct Archaeology is a CIFA Registered Organisation (23), and has BS EN ISO 9001: 2015 and other professional accreditations.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate proven ability in the management and delivery of a wide variety of archaeological/heritage projects within the UK commercial sector. The post will require experience in field and office based projects, and will include tendering and managing projects from inception to delivery. It you think you are the right person you will also be flexible in your approach to work, relish a challenge and enjoy interaction with statutory bodies, curatorial staff, clients, their agents, and your team, as well as colleagues in the office. Experience of managing projects in an urban environment would be most welcome as would IT skills, including use of common software packages and use of GIS. A good team ethos will be required as will a willingness to assist or mentor other colleagues within the operational team.

The post will be based at our Brockley premises.  Possession of a clean, full UK Driving Licence is preferred, and membership of the CIfA is desirable. The successful candidate should be in possession of a current CSCS card and possession of SMSTS, NEBOSH or similar relevant professional qualification would be desirable, but provided as necessary. Other training will be provided as required.

CAD TECHNICIAN - January 2018

Pre-Construct Archaeology Limited (PCA) is one of the UK’s largest providers of professional archaeological advice and services. The company is based in London, with offices in Cambridge, Durham, Newark, Norwich, Warwick and Winchester, and provides archaeological services across the country.

The Company is seeking an experienced CAD Technician to work in the PCA Cambridge Office.

The post involves using AutoCAD to produce archaeological maps and stratigraphic drawings for the PCA Cambridge Office, and other PCA offices as necessary. This involves the digitisation of archaeological plans and sections and the production of archaeological plans, to illustrate all types of report. These include Watching Brief and Evaluation Reports, Assessments and Desk Based Assessments, and Historic Building Recording. Drawings for publications may also be required.

This post also entails downloading, processing and editing of survey data from GPS, and extracting and uploading to GPS the coordinates for trench set out. Some site survey work may also be required as part of the role.

Previous experience in using AutoCAD for archaeological drafting and/or building recording is an advantage. The ability to produce illustrations of a high standard is essential. A background in archaeological fieldwork is essential, as well as familiarity with data-capture using GPS and standard site recording techniques. All-round computer literacy, familiarity with using a variety of digital data sets and paper maps (modern and historic), and close attention to detail are also requirements of the post. GIS experience would be advantageous but not essential. Experience of using GPS or other survey methods would be advantageous, though training would be provided if necessary.

A motivated and flexible attitude, and good communication and team-work skills are essential, as is an ability to meet deadlines and produce highly accurate work even under pressure.
